SEC Football: Offseason grades per school
South Carolina (B)
If running back Raheim “Rocket” Sanders returns to his 2022 form he had for the Arkansas Razorbacks, this 2023 transfer portal acquisition could make all the difference for head coach Shane Beamer and the Gamecocks in 2024.
The Gamecocks also brought in a key off field hire in Darren Uscher as their new Director of Player Personnel and Recruiting. Uscher has spent the last five seasons at Boise State in the same role. Each year he was at the school, the Broncos signed the top recruiting class in the Mountain West Conference.
Tennessee (A-)
The Tennessee Volunteers football program seems to have taken another step in the right direction so far in the 2024 offseason. The program currently sits at number eight in On3’s recruiting rankings, which is the highest during head coach Josh Heupel’s tenure.
If this told, it would most likely include current commit and four star quarterback George MacIntyre who headlines the class as the eighth ranked quarterback nationally.
The Volunteers also pulled in five star wide receivers Mike Matthews in the 2023 class who looks to factor in immediately for the Vols in 2024, alongside fellow wide receiver Chris Brazzell who was pulled out of the transfer portal from Tulane.
Texas A&M (A-)
Mike Elko moved mountains in the 2024 offseason for the Aggies. Elko was hired after the firing of former Aggies head coach Jimbo Fisher and has not skipped a beat since arrive back in College Station where he served as defensive coordinator from 2018-2021.
In addition to gaining a five star commit in quarterback Husan Longstreet for the class of 2025, Elko was also very busy in the transfer portal.
In the 2024 transfer portal, Elko and the Aggies ranked 66th, but pulled in big time transfers that should help them to solidify some gaping holes that exist in 2023. After being torched in the secondary, Elko brings in former five star Dezz Ricks who transfers from the Alabama Crimson Tide, along with defensive end Nic Scourton who totaled 10 sacks for the Purdue Boilermakers in 2023.
