2. Nic Scourton (Edge, Texas A&M)

Scourton’s numbers were staggering last year for the Purdue Boilermakers. The Bryan, Texas native returns home to play for the Aggies in 2024 after proving he is ready to take the league by storm.

In 2023, Scourton totaled 50 tackles and 10 sacks from the edge position for the Boilermakers. Watch for him to continue wrecking backfields in the SEC and to be a true difference maker for the Aggies who are led by first year defensive minded head coach Mike Elko.

1. Brock Vandagriff (QB, Kentucky)

Vandagriff will be the best transfer portal acquisition in the SEC in 2024 and potentially the entire country. Not only do the Wildcats return nine of eleven starters on defense, but they return all five starters on the offensive line as well, along with returning wide receiver weapons Barion Brown and Dane Key.

This situation goes largely un-talked about because it is Kentucky after all. And to be fair, they are coming off back-to-back 7-6 seasons under head coach Mark Stoops. The amount returning though is hard to overlook.

And not only that, but although Vandagriff is in his first year as a starting quarterback, this should not be overlooked either. The former Georgia Bulldog spent three seasons backing up two-time national champion quarterback Stetson Bennett and Carson Beck. With Beck returning to the Bulldogs for another season, the former five star recruit Vandagriff is more that ready for the moment one would figure.
