Missouri Tigers 2025 high school football quarterback commit, Matt Zollers just went viral. And it is not for anything other than throwing a football. In a recent video Zollers posted himself on X (formerly known as Twitter) throwing the ball 80 yards from his own 20 yard line to the goal line on the other side of the field.

Yes, it is absolutely fair to say that this is on a field with no one on defense, in gym shorts and no pressure. But it is still something to marvel at as let’s be honest, not many of us can get out there in any situation and throw the ball 80 yards in the air.

What is Matt Zollers’ recruitment ranking?

According to On3, the Missouri quarterback commit is a five star, ranking as the fifth quarterback and 31st overall prospect nationally.

The six foot three inch high school senior from Royersford, Pennsylvania was a somewhat late discovery compared to other at his position in the same class in part due to not attending as many camps due to playing other high school sports.

His talent as seen in the video however could not be ignored, and now we are seeing a small glimpse into why.

It is fascinating to think that a year ago at this time, Zollers’ only division one offer was from Old Dominion University. Presently, Zollers has 20 offers according to On3, including 14 from power four programs.

What are some of the longest throws by quarterbacks?

Some other quarterback names of note that have thrown the ball very far in the past in non-game situations are Josh Allen, Joe Milton and Jamarcus Russell.

At the collegiate level, Russell definitely had a strong career with the LSU Tigers throwing for 6,625 yards and 52 touchdowns in three seasons.

And with no division one offers out of high school to emerging as one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL, one can undoubtedly argue the same for Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills. One of the first times Allen started to be discovered nationally was during the NFL Combine in 2018 when the Wyoming Cowboys product threw a deep bomb connecting with his wide receiver in the drill.

Joe Milton

Current New England Patriots quarterback Joe Milton has been on record saying he can throw the ball 80 yards, and he has proved it on video as well.

If Zollers can hold up as a recruit to the standards set by these other three, he is in for at least a decent college career, and hopefully a professional career as well.

Who is the starting quarterback for the Missouri Tigers?

While the Missouri quarterback room is strong, Zollers will undoubtedly get his chance if he indeed lands in Columbia in 2025. Brady Cook will be the starting quarterback for the Tigers this season, and will graduate before Cook arrives on campus.

Therefore, presumably Cooks competition will be Notre Dame and Arizona State transfer Drew Pyne and sophomore quarterback Sam Horn .

With Horn suffering injuries on the baseball diamond for the Tigers and Pyne having in-game experience, Pyne projects to be the starter for the Tigers as of right now in 2025. Horn was a four star recruit out of high school himself however ranking as the 14th best quarterback in the class of 2022 according to on3.

With the competition being stiff early on, it may be a good thing for Zollers to sit for a year or two to gain experience behind these veterans. Regardless, this throw should have folks in Columbia excited about the future of Missouri Football at the quarterback positions.
