SEC School Featured in Docuseries Coming Soon

Jayden Daniels, Angel Reese and Olivia “Livvy Dunne.” These are just a few of the most popular names that have emerged in college athletics the last few years. And there is a common theme- they are all from LSU.

The success of LSU athletics included a national championship for LSU women’s basketball and men’s baseball in 2023, a national championship for women’s gymnastics in 2023 and a Heisman Trophy winning quarterback in Jayden Daniels. In total, LSU leads the SEC with 51 team national championships all-time.

Upcoming soon this off season, Prime Video announced a new documentary featuring LSU athletics during the 2023-2024 academic year.

The main story of the documentary will be NIL, which was made legal by an NCAA policy in 2021 allowing players to be paid for their name, image and likeness. And LSU has some of the highest paid NIL athletes the past few years. Olivia “Livvy” Dunne currently ranks second on the list in NIL earnings. Before being drafted into the professional ranks, Jayden Daniels and Angel Reese were also valuated to be in the top 10 in NIL earnings amongst all college athletes.

According to Deadline, The Money Game “is directed by Drea Cooper. Executive producers include Ross Dinerstein, Rebecca Evans, and Ross Girard of Campfire Studios; Erica Winograd, Jim VandeHei, and Roy Schwartz of Axios Media; Shaquille O’Neal, Colin Smeeton, and Michael Parris of Jersey Legends; and Brendan Daw and Drea Cooper.”

What are the Backgrounds of the Athletes Featured in the Docuseries?

Daniels is probably the most popular that will be featured in the documentary and was just selected second overall in the 2024 NFL Draft by the Washington Commanders.

Angel Reese and Olivia “Livvy” Dunne are not far behind as Reese and former Iowa Hawkeyes women’s basketball player Caitlin Clark have been making headlines with their intense rivalry for a few years now.

Dunne was just part of the women’s gymnastics national championship team and is currently dating former LSU standout pitcher, Paul Skenes who was taken first overall in the 2023 MLB Draft. It is unclear whether or not Skenes will appear in the documentary as he exited LSU before the 2023-2024 academic year.

Last year Netflix released the series Quarterback which was a documentary featuring NFL quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes, Kirk Cousins and some others. The show did so well that one can imagine with college athletes being allowed to appear and be paid in documentaries now, it only made sense from Amazon to put something together which could keep fans’ pallets wet this off season.

While no release date has been announced, watch for this docuseries to be available for streaming in the next month or two to hype fans up for the upcoming season.
