12th Seed : Ole Miss Rebels

The Ole Miss Rebels were able to sneak into the tournament, depsite getting swept this weekend by LSU. Their regular season record was 27-28, with an 11-19 conference record.

The key for Ole Miss to go on a run in the tournament is for their pitching to limit the base runners. This season, the Rebels pitching staff has walked the most batters (246) in the entire conference. Their team earned run average (5.95) and hits allowed (499) is the second worse in the entire conference.

If their pitching can step it up, the Rebels have chance. Their offense also needs to be better for Ole Miss to keep their season alive. As a team, they are ranked second to last in batting average (.257), on-base percentage (.374), and slugging percentage (.438).

One hitter has stood out on offense and that is Andrew Fischer, a sophomore infielder who transferred from Duke. This season, Fischer has a .289 batting average with 20 home runs and 57 runs batted in. He also has an OPS of 1.051, which includes an on-base percentage of .399 and a slugging percentage of .652.

Ole Miss will play their first game in the tournament on Tuesday night as they take on Mississippi State.

11th Seed : LSU Tigers

The LSU Tigers were also able to establish themseleves a spot in the tournament with a strong finish to the season. Their regular season record was 36-20, with a 13-17 conference record.

LSU has struggled this season after coming off of a College World Series victory in 2023. This tournament is very important for the Tigers as they attempt to get back to Omaha. They have a very solid team with great players, but until recently, they have not been able to put it all together.

The Tigers have two very solid starting pitchers. Luke Holman has been their ace as he has an 8-3 record with an earned run average of 2.73 in 79 innings pitched and has struck out 109 batters. Gage Jump is another solid starter as he has a 5-1 record with an earned run average of 3.65 earned run average in 66.2 innings pitched and has struck out 82 batters.

Offensively, LSU has been led by their star third baseman Tommy White. This season, White has a batting average of .341 with 23 home runs and 63 runs batted in. He also has an OPS of 1.106, which includes an on-base percentage of .412 and a slugging percentage of .694.
