8th Seed : Vanderbilt Commodores

The Vanderbilt Commodores had a rough stetch to end the season as they lost four straight conference series. This resulted in them finishing the year with a 35-20 record, with a conference record of 13-17.

At one point this season, Vanderbilt was ranked inside the top six, but they finished the season unranked. The Commodores have been pretty average this season with pitching and offense. They rank near the middle of the conference in various stats for both categories.

Their pitching was very good at the start of the season, but multiple injuries halted their momentum. As a team, Vanderbilt's pitching staff has a team earned run average of 5.08 with an opponent batting average of .241 and a WHIP of 1.35. Not bad, but not great either.

Their offense is led by sophomore RJ Austin. This season, Austin has a batting average of .319 with five home runs and 50 runs batted in. He also has an OPS of .854, which includes an on-base percentage of .396 and a slugging percentage of .458.

This team is not a home run team, but they can utilize the small-ball strategy to win games. They are the defending champions of the SEC Tournament.

Vanderbilt's first game will be on Tuesday afternoon against Florida.

7th Seed : Alabama Crimson Tide

The Alabama Crimson Tide completed a solid regular season to secure the seventh seed in the SEC Tournament. Alabama heads to the tournament with a 33-21 record, with a 13-7 conference record.

This season, the Crimson Tide had some unexpected results from their team. Ben Hess was the teams ace after a great sophomore season, but 2024 was different. This year, Hess has a 5-4 record with a 5.98 earned run average in 61.2 innings pitched and has struck out 98 batters. His problem has been allowing a lot of base runners and that has costed him lots of runs.

Another surprise was Gage Miller becoming one of the best hitters in the country. This season, Miller has a batting average of .383 with 18 home runs and 55 runs batted in. He also has an OPS of 1.203, which includes an on-base percentage of .480 and a slugging percentage of .723.

Alabama has a very solid offense, but their pitching has underperformed. If Alabama wants to have a chance in the tournament, then they will need their pitching to step up.

Alabama will play their first game in the tournament against South Carolina on Tuesday afternoon.
