Strong Words from Former Oklahoma Sooner's Running Back Tawee Walker

Tawee Walker decided to transfer recently to the University of Wisconsin, away from the Oklahoma Sooners who he signed with out of high school just a few years ago. That is not the story however. The story is Walker's strong words about the Sooner's program where he was for his first two seasons. In this article, I detail Walker's comments and what it all means.

Tawee Walker had some strong words towards to Oklahoma Sooners running back room after his exit in the transfer portal this past offseason. Walker took to his YouTube channel and made some comments that left Sooner fans questioning whether or not it was Walker, or if the position room was indeed “hectic,” as Walker put it.

What did Tawee Walker Say?

Walker stated, “I really felt like I was — not trapped, but I can’t think of the word for it, but condensed… I don’t even know; just not seeing my full potential,” Walker said. “I feel like they kind of used me as a third-down back or a guy that’s just, like, ‘Dang, nobody else is doing anything. I know Tawee is going to do something. Let me put Tawee in.’ I just feel I should’ve been established as the guy, or we should’ve had a one and two the whole year to just go on instead of having just mixing people up, just seeing who’s going to do what.”

These words are an inside look into the running back position group from a players perspective for the 2023 season that was led by former Oklahoma Sooners running back and current running backs coach, DeMarco Murray.

What did Tawee Walker Say about DeMarco Murray?

While Walker emphasized respect for his position coach Murray, he did say that there was some disagreements stating that there was “a couple issues.” Despite there being some issues, Walker made it clear that his decision to transfer was not because of Murray.

Walker stated, “It made us nothing but stronger,” Walker said. “Love him still today, and I’m almost positive he’ll say the same for his love toward me.”

What were Tawee Walker’s Numbers in 2023?

Walker amassed 512 yards on 102 carries and seven touchdowns for the Sooners in 2023. This was second on the team to fellow Sooner’s running back, redshirt freshman Gavin Sawchuk who led the team with 744 yards rushing and nine touchdowns.

Where did Tawee Walker Transfer to?

Walker will now be playing for Luke Fickel and the Wisconsin Badgers in 2024. This will be Fickel’s second season in Madison leading the Badgers, and look for Walker to be a featured part of the offense.

What did Tawee Walker have to Say about Oklahoma Fans?

Walker had nothing but positive things to say about the folks in Norman. Walker stated that Oklahoma had “one of the greatest fan bases in the sport.”

This seems to simply be a running back that made it clear the organization of the running back position specifically did not seem to be in order. If there was a side of the ball that had some lack of attention to detail, it would make sense that it would be the offensive side of the ball given that head coach Brent Venables a defensive-minded coach.
