The Tennessee Volunteers officially have a new home run leader in the record books. On Saturday afternoon, Blake Burke hit his 41st career home run to break the all time home run record at Tennessee. This homer came in a 12-2 victory against Auburn.

This record was previously held by Luc Lipcius who played in six seasons at Tennessee. He played in 2017 through 2022 and hit 40 home runs in his time with the Volunteers.

Burke is in his junior season at Tennessee and has been great in his entire career. In three seasons, Burke has a batting average of .321 with 41 home runs and 102 runs batted in. He also has a career OPS of 1.084, which includes an on-base percentage of .416 and a slugging percentage of .668.

Burke is draft eligible this year, but is not getting recognition from MLB Pipeline or other sites. In my opinion, he is a great hitter and is an underrated player for this year’s Major League Draft.

The first base prospect is having a great year so far. In 30 games, Burke has a batting average of .404 with 11 home runs and 27 runs batted in. He also has an OPS of 1.315, which includes an on-base percentage of .473 and a slugging percentage of .842.

Burke is also tied for first in division one baseball with 17 doubles on the season. He is also ranked 15th in slugging percentage.

The season is already halfway to being complete. The Volunteers currently have a record of 25-6, with a 6-5 conference record. They will most definitely play in the post season and could potentially host a regional in Knoxville.

Burke has a chance to make the all time home run record at Tennessee over 50, which would secure is name at the top of the record books for a long time. For now though, the record sits at 41 home runs from Blake Burke.
