At the end of the day, it is all about making money for universities.

As much as we cheer for our teams, travel to the games, buy the merchandise and feel appreciated by the university we support, the dollar sign is always the bottom line.

In an article by www.collegesportswire.usatoday.com , the revenues of the top 20 schools that have FBS football programs are shared with nine being from the SEC.

The top five revenue generating schools are expanded upon in this article as I compare through an analytical lens how the revenue generated in the 2022-2023 fiscal year worked out for each team as far as how much each loss on their 12 game schedule truly cost them.

Here are the categories listed defined

Revenue– How much money the school made generated by athletics.

Regular Season Losses – How many regular season losses each team had.

Per Loss Amount – Math was done based on a 12 game regular season, dividing the teams total revenue amount by 12.

Total Loss Amount – The per loss amount was multiplied for each team by the number of regular season losses in their 12 game regular season that each had. This determines the total loss amount.

Profit Remaining – The profit remaining is the revenue total minus the total loss amount. This gives us the total profit for each team.

While this is solely based off of football and not other sports, it is no secret that football is the highest revenue generating sport by far at each institution, so is interesting to look at who made the most of the funds coming in as far as wins and losses.

We shall see based on record if the revenue amounts for each institution increase or decrease in 2024. Going by the numbers, Georgia should definitely increase on that end, while Texas A&M may and Florida may see a decrease with six and seven losses respectively.
