Vanderbilt Walks It Off Against Florida Atlantic

The Vanderbilt Commodores win it on opening day, 12-11, with a walkoff single by Jonathan Vastine.

Greyson Carter was the starting pitcher for the Commodores and he struggled with control early. Only lasting three innings on the mound, Carter had two strikeouts and allowed one hit, seven walks, and three earned runs.

Jack Bulger got the offense started for the Commodores by sending the first pitch into the left field seats. The very next inning, RJ Austin adds a homer of his own with two runners on base, making the score 6-0.

Shortly after the Commodres went up 6-0, the Owls added four runs of their own with a three-run double by Emilio Gonzalez and an single by Jalen DeBose.

In the sixth inning, Jonathan Vastine hit a solo home run to extend the Commodores lead to 8-4. Shortly after the homer, the Owls go on to score five runs, courtesy of hits by Brando Leroux, John Schroeder, and Daulton Frank.

The ninth inning gets interesting as Leroux puts the Owls up 11-9 with a two-run homer. In the bottom half of the ninth, the Commodores get within a run with a run scoring single by Davis Diaz. With two outs, Vastine comes up to the plate and hits a blooper into left field, scoring two runs, giving Vanderbilt a 12-11 victory.
