Vanderbilt Sweeps Auburn in First Conference Series

The ninth ranked Vanderbilt Commodores began conference play with a sweep against the eighteenth ranked Auburn Tigers. Let's recap each game in this series.

Game One

The Commodores opened up game one with a mercy-rule victory over the Tigers.

Carter Holton got the start on the mound for Vanderbilt and dominated. In seven innings pitched, Holton struck out nine batters and allowed four hits, a walk, and one earned run. This earned him his third win on the season, making his record 3-0.

Chase Allsup got the start for the Tigers and struggled. In four innings of work, Allsup struck out four hitters and gave up nine hits, two walks, and seven earned runs. This gave him the loss, making his record 1-1.

Ike Irish scored the only run for Auburn in the first inning on a wild pitch. Vanderbilt shortly responded in the second inning with a run scoring single by Calvin Hewett and a two run homer by Jonathan Vastine.

The Commodores would go on to score eight more more runs before the game got called to mercy-rulein the eighth inning.

RJ Austin got a run scoring single in the fourth after Jonathan Vastine drove in another run on a fielders choice.

Jayden Davis and Matthew Polk both drove in runs in the fifth inning to make it 7-1. In the eighth inning, Davis Diaz, Jack Bulger, and Jayden Davis all drove in runs to make it 10-1. Davis would then score on a passed ball to win the game, 11-1.
