ESPN college football analyst Pat McAfee announced his return to ESPN's College GameDay for the second season yesterday after helping to rejuvenate a show that seemed to have lost some juice heading into 2023.

What is College GameDay?

ESPN’s College GameDay has been the premier pre-game college football talk show that airs on the network three hours before the first games kick off every Saturday. The show has been airing since 1987.

While the show has had several media personalities over the year, some of the main stays are Lee Corso, Kirk Herbstreit and Desmond Howard. With Corso getting older and losing some of his flair, the show was in need of a boost. Insert McAfee for the 2023 season.

McAfee’s loud and passionate personality left nothing to be desired as he never failed to get the fan base of whichever campus the show was on that week involved.

Here are some of Pat McAfee’s best moments on College Gameday

McAfee leads Tennessee band

Like legendary Vols quarterback Peyton Manning did in 1997 after the Vols beat the Alabama Crimson Tide 38-21, McAfee would lead the University of Tennessee’s Southland Band alongside Manning in a rendition of their “Rocky Top,” which is a trademark song of the school.

McAfee jumps into Tennessee River

This one actually happened during the 2022 season in one of McAfee’s guest appearances on College GameDay when he was first bursting onto the scene. McAfee is seen broadcasting on the back of one of the boats that is part of the “Vol Navy” on the Tennessee River in Knoxville, Tennessee tailgating before a home game.

Seemingly impromptu, McAfee rips his shirt off and jumps into a chilly Tennessee River in front of dozens of Vol fans. This appearance put McAfee center stage in the eyes of many across the college football world which helped propel him to a full time gig in 2023.

McAfee leads Alabama fans in a “Roll Tide Roll”

Sound up on this one. All but falling off of his chair to do it, McAfee leads the fans in Tuscaloosa in a “Roll Tide Roll” before their big week two game against the Texas Longhorns in 2023. This is one of the loudest moments ever on College GameDay.

McAfee give Georgia fans a fake for the ages

On set before the SEC Championship game in Atlanta, Georgia, McAfee seemingly picks the Georgia Bulldogs to win the game after leading Bulldog fans in their famous “go dawgs” chant. McAfee then pivots picking Alabama at the last second.

While there are some many moments, these are some of the finest from the SEC. With the official announcement of him returning to the show for 2024, I am sure more will be in store. Stay tuned.
