Where does Shedeur Sanders Rank Among SEC Quarterbacks?

Shedeur Sanders and Deion Sanders have been the center of attention lately due to comments made by former Colorado Buffalo football player, Xavier smith in the media. Shedeur Sanders' response to Smith brought Sanders top of mind for many, so I thought I would compare him to other SEC quarterback and how he would stack up against the competition.

Shedeur Sanders, quarterback and son of Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders made waves this past weekend after making some comments about a former teammate on social media. After Xavier Smith came out stating that he felt overlooked by Deion Sanders and brought to tears over Deion telling him to transfer without even getting to know him, Shedeur Sanders came to his dad’s defense

What did Shedeur Sanders Say in Response to Xavier Smith?

Sanders took to X (formerly known as Twitter) with the response seen above. The remark went viral and made Shedeur enemy number one to many fans across college football.

With Shedeur and Deion already being a polarizing force once the father-son duo emerged in Boulder this past fall, one thing cannot be questioned; and that is that Colorado is better now than before the pair came in.

The year before Deion arrived as head coach at the University of Colorado, the Buffaloes went 1-11. In his first season of a rebuild, Sanders led the Buffs to a 4-8 record and captured national attention with the Amazon Prime Docuseries, Coach Prime.

Deion named his son Shedeur who transferred over from Jackson State following his father as the teams’ starting quarterback. And Shedeur did not disappoint.

Say what you may about his comments towards Xavier Smith, but Shedeur definitely performed on the field throwing for 3,230 yards, 27 touchdowns and only three interceptions while completing 69% of his passes.

With the national attention Shedeur has gotten recently, I thought it would be neat to take a look at how he would rank amongst SEC quarterbacks.

How would Shedeur Sanders Rank in Passing Yards Amongst Quarterbacks in the SEC?

In 2023, Sanders would have ranked fifth amongst SEC quarterbacks. Carson Beck, Jayden Daniels, Jaxson Dary and Brady Cook ranked ahead of Sanders in that order. Four of those quarterbacks return. So presumably Sanders would be the fourth best quarterback in the SEC in this category.

How would Shedeur Sanders Rank in Passing Touchdowns Amongst Quarterbacks in the SEC?

Sanders would have ranked second to only 2023 Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels from LSU in 2023. That means he would be the leader in the clubhouse as it comes to passing touchdowns for 2024.

How would Shedeur Sanders Rank in interceptions Amongst Quarterbacks in the SEC?

Sanders would have ranked atop the standings here in the SEC throwing only three interceptions all of 2023.

With that being said, SEC fans will argue that Sanders was not playing against SEC competition. And that is quite fair. Let us not forget though that Colorado did play in the Pac-12 last year which was arguably the strongest conference in the country top to bottom. In total last season, Sanders faced six teams that ended up being ranked at the end of the year.

With these kind of numbers, Fan Duel may be off some as they only have Sanders at +4000 odds to win the Heisman Trophy in 2024.

Usually if you are atop the SEC in many statistical quarterback categories, you are seriously in the conversation.
