But there is something about playing in Tiger Stadium on a Saturday night that makes any team that goes in there, a little bit spooked. You have the loud fans, the stadium atmosphere and then you have the magic of Tiger Stadium.

A lot of media members had said before this game that despite the fact that the Tigers were struggling at the time, this was not going to be no cake walk for the Rebels and they were right.

Although the Rebels lead most of the game, that magic, voodoo or whatever you want to call it in Tiger Stadium started to affect the them

Not to mention the fact that LSU head coach Les Miles’ mother had died that day, so emotions were high.

With Ole Miss leading 7-3 going into the fourth quarter, LSU would march down the field when quarterback Anthony Jennings throw a touchdown pass to tight end Logan Stokes with just over five minutes left in the game to take the 10-7 lead.

Ole Miss would come right back down the field with quarterback Bo Wallace leading them, but one controversy play would end the Rebels undefeated season.

Rather than playing it safe and going for a game-tying field goal at the of the game, Wallace would try to throw a pass into the end zone which was intercepted.

Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze tried to explain Wallace’s thinking on that play.

“I thought we were plenty clear we were either going to take the flat throw or throw it out of bounds, and then try the field goal,” Freeze said. “He must have felt like he had a shot at the touchdown play there. … I wish I could do that over, for sure.”

Clearly, the star quarterback thought more about being the hero than doing the smart thing, which has always been an issue with him.

The Ole Miss loss at the time meant not only that Mississippi State would be the sole undefeated team in the West, but it would later set up a showdown between Alabama and the Bulldogs later that season for not only first place, but a spot in the college football playoff.
