SEC Heisman Hopefuls

Jeremy Johnson. Don’t lie. Don’t. you. lie! You bought the hype! It is ok, I did too! I was talking to my brother after Saturday’s slate of games, and both of us were just shaking our heads when discussing the play of these quarterbacks. Jeremy Johnson was regarded as Clark Kent Jr. and apparently the starting quarterback job is Johnson’s kryptonite. Coming into the season, Auburn was untouchable and Jeremy Johnson was going to lead the way while having a Heisman season.

Well, he has led the way. He has led the way to the ugliest 2-1 start I’ve seen in recent memory. His performance

and team has been so bad, it is hard find the top 25 rankings credible due to them having Auburn included. Please tell me I’m overreacting because according to sports-reference.com, Jeremy Johnson’s stat line has him with a completion percentage of 59.7%, 5 touchdowns, 6 interceptions, and less than 500 yards through his first 3 games.
We expected 400 yards and 5 touchdowns against Jacksonville State! Now, heading into the Auburn game versus Mississippi State, fans would rather Jeremy Johnson watch the game from Toomer’s Corner than even dress. I don’t blame them. This is exactly why we have waited until now to start our list of Heisman hopefuls, because….you know…week 3 isn’t too early to start doing something like that. Ahem.
My list of SEC Heisman hopefuls from the beginning of the season read like most: Jeremy Johnson, Dak Prescott, Derrick Henry, Nick Chubb, Leonard Fournette and the dark horse Joshua Dobbs.
Every week we will name the top 5 SEC Heisman hopefuls. Of course, we will mention any players that are starting to make a name for themselves or set themselves up for next year’s run. How has the list changed? Let’s see.
