I’m not going to lie.  We thought waiting a few weeks into the season would really help us in analyzing the Heisman situation as it relates to the SEC.  With literally thousands of players in the nation, it is amazing to just have 2 Heisman contenders come from the same conference.  We went 5 players deep every single week.  We analyzed the best the SEC had every week and gave you our top 5 players that could separate themselves from the pack and make a run for a Heisman, whether this year or next.

Then it became clear.  I was jinxing the players.  I’m not kidding; you laugh.  I am writing apology letters.  They go something like this:

Dear Kyle Allen/Greyson Lambert/Will Grier/and more,

Every week I write a Heisman Hopefuls article for southboundanddown.com.  I included you in my top 5, specifically the number 4 spot.  The next week you played like absolute garbage (or got popped for “over the counter” drugs).  There’s something greater at work here, and for that I apologize.  I wish you the best in trying to return to your form that had us so impressed.  The fact is, you probably aren’t as good as we thought you were in the beginning.  I’ll own mine, if you own yours.

Sincerely sorry,

but stop making me look bad,

Benjamin Richardson

That may not be as much of an apology letter as you were expecting, but I gave it my best.  I called my editor this past week and said “Look, we need to see what happens this weekend.  I swear there’s something to this article that is jinxing these kids.  I’m coming back next week with a top 3 to try and break this jinx.”  He agreed, so here we go.  Good luck if your team’s best player is number 3.  *Knocks on wood*
