SEC Football Championship: Southbound and Down Staff Pick ‘Em

facebooktwitterreddit

Throughout the 2015 SEC Football regular season, the Southbound and Down staff participated in a pick ’em.  We posted the season-long results of that pick ’em earlier this week, with yours truly emerging victorious in both the heads up and pick ’em series.

As a break between the regular season and bowl season pick ’em, we are all throwing out our picks for the SEC Championship game between Alabama and Florida this Saturday.  We all finished above .500 in the regular season, so we feel like we make some pretty good picks.

Without further adieu, here’s our picks for the SEC Championship Game.

The Game:

Alabama Crimson Tide (-17) v Florida Gators

Andrew Schutte:

This is arguably the easiest pick I’ve made all season. Florida gets a lucky field goal against the Crimson Tide, but that’s about about the only success this atrocious offense will have Saturday afternoon. Give me Bama and the points; Tide roll the Gators 31-3.

Neal Wilkerson:

Alabama 30 Florida 6

I’m sure McElwain has told his team all week how undermatched and overpowered they are. Doesn’t he do this before every game? Nick Saban will drag this game out, and try not to embarrass his former pupil. Florida actually has a good run defense, but look for Derrick Henry to physically and emotionally drain the Gators.

Future note: There’s going to come a game in the playoffs where it’ll be up to Coker to win for the Crimson Tide. If Alabama has a weakness, it’s at the quarterback position.

Neal Wilkerson:

Treon Harris is horrible.  That is all there is to know about this game.  The match up of Alabama ‘ s run game vs Florida’s defense doesn’t matter because UF and Treon Harris won’t move the ball 100 total yards for the entire game.  Alabama covers and the strong UF defense keeps the score total under.

John Richardson:

The Florida Gators will hold the Alabama offense in check for the first half of the game.  Derrick Henry will break through in the second half, though, and the Crimson Tide will cover this giant spread.  This may seem like an accurate spread to many but 17 points is huge for a conference championship game.  Nick Saban isn’t worried about that, though, and the Tide will roll on their way to the College Football Playoff.
