Dan Mullen is not a southerner and it seems he just can’t appreciate this Starkville tradition.

Dan “the man” Mullen has a lot of fans in Starkville, Mississippi.  It seems like he is determined to lose them in the quickest way possible.  He has yet to beat Alabama and has lost 3 of 4 in the Egg Bowl.  Dan Mullen has done something much worse today, though.

In what Mississippi State fans have to be hoping is a poor taste April Fool’s from Dan Mullen, the head coach has said it is time to move beyond allowing cowbells inside Davis Wade Stadium.  Being a Mississippian myself, I can’t imagine this will play too well to the Bulldog faithful.

A source that doesn’t actually know Dan Mullen had this to say,

More from SEC Football

“It is absolutely a travesty.  Dan Mullen thinks he can come in here and win a few games and then just do whatever he wants.  This may not be how they do it in Pennsylvania or Jersey or wherever he’s from.  But this is our state and we’ll ring our cowbells til the cows come home!”

Bad cows joke aside, this isn’t a response that I am surprised by.  Some are taking it much better than others, though.  One individual who doesn’t exist had this to say,

“Dan Mullen is absolutely right.  Mississippi State football has a lot of traditions but this one is just silly.  We’re so close to bowling in our stadium and all the loud noises hurt my ears sometimes.  I want to be able to watch the game in peace but I don’t want to stay at home with my wife!  It’s ok either way, though.  The cowbells were silent at the end of the Egg Bowl this year and that’s my lasting memory from this season.  I usually just leave when we’re losing.”

By the way, you do remember today is April Fool’s right?  This entire post is an April Fool’s.  Unfortunately, I wish it wasn’t.  Here’s to wishing you a happy day.  Sorry Mississippi State fans, this was too easy to pass up.
