SEC Football: Maxwell and Bednarik Award Watchlists Full of SEC Players
As we slowly but surely inch our way to the 2016 college football season, SEC football is acknowledged as having some of the best talent in America by both the Bednarik and Maxwell Award watch lists.
SEC football fans crave trophies and awards. Whether it be a rivalry game, individual award, bowl trophy, SEC Football trophy or national championship — SEC football fans love having stuff to brag about.
Unlike most collegiate conferences, there is as much conference pride for many SEC football fans as there is pride in their own team. As a result, SEC football fans want to know how many from their favorite conference make awards watch lists like the Maxwell and Bednarik. Just so we’re all clear: the Maxwell goes to the country’s best offensive player, while the Bednarik goes to the nation’s best defensive player.
That’s where we come in to help. Who cares what other players are on the lists, which can be found here (Bednarik) and here (Maxwell). SEC football fans only want to know two things from such lists: “did a player from my favorite team make it?” and “how many SEC football players made the list?” Well, let me help.

Overall, 9 SEC football players make the 90 player Maxwell Award Watch List. Six school are represented, with Alabama, Tennessee and Texas A&M all contributing two players. The Bednarik Award was more even more populated with SEC football players, as 24 made the cut. Alabama led the way for SEC football, with 4 of the 24 hailing from Tuscaloosa.
I don’t want to point fingers, but it must be said. Mississippi State, South Carolina and Kentucky are the only 3 SEC football schools without a single name on either list. This post is about SEC football pride, though, so I’ll just leave it at that.
