Each SEC football team has at least a few studs. Whether it be their middle linebacker, corner, wide receiver or quarterback, each fan base has those few guys they can point to and say “he’s that dude.” The question becomes, though, who is the best?
It was tough to pick out the best Auburn football player for the 2016 season. I know they didn’t exactly have a stellar 2015 after having high expectations, but it wasn’t due to a lack of talent. Guys like Jovon Robinson and Carlton Davis experienced emerging years and are poised for breakout campaigns for Auburn football. John Franklin III joins the recent group of EMCC quarterbacks to join the SEC and is poised for his own breakout year. The young guns will have to wait until next year, though, as an old hand will lead Auburn football in 2016.

Carl Lawson is an absolute monster and Auburn’s D will go as he goes. For that matter, Auburn football will go as he goes. He’s an athletic freak and an absolute terror for offensive tackles. Laremy Tunsil, widely regarded as the nation’s top offensive tackle last year, called Lawson the toughest assignment he ever faced. And Lawson produces like it for Auburn football.

Through 21 games played, Lawsom has accumulated five sacks and 10.5 tackles for loss. Those numbers should be much greater, though, as Lawson has missed 19 games during his tenure with Auburn football. If Lawson stays on the field in 2016, expect him to be in the running for multiple honors at season’s end and lead the Auburn football team to a resurgent year.
