There are 78 days remaining till the start of the college football season, and today we focus on one of the SEC’s best home run threats.

The Florida Gators were not the most polished offensive team in the SEC last season, but they did have the ability to stretch the field with elite athletes on the outside.

And that leads us to no. 78 on the Southbound and Down College Football Countdown.

Florida’s Luke Del Rio hit Antonio Callaway for a 78-yard touchdown against Kentucky in 2016.

Must Read: 79-0 was the biggest blowout of 2016

Kentucky was playing Florida tough in the first quarter of last year’s game. The Wildcats trailed 7-0 late in the first, then the momentum shifted, and it was all-Gators.

More from Southbound and Down

Kentucky was driving across midfield before Drew Barker was intercepted by Quincy Wilson, and the Gators took over at their own 22-yard line, and then they went for the jugular.

Luke Del Rio was under center with twin wide receivers on the left side. With Brandon Powell in the slot, he ran a crossing route, drawing the attention of the deep safety, then Del Rio let it fly to Antonio Callaway on the deep post, who caught it and outran the Kentucky secondary for a 78-yard touchdown, putting the Gators up 14-0.

And that opened the flood gates. Florida beat Kentucky by a final score of 45-7, their 30th consecutive win over the Wildcats.

Callaway led the Gators with 54 receptions for 721 yards and three touchdowns last season. He has led Florida in receiving yards and has tied for the most receiving touchdowns in each of his two seasons in Gainesville.

If the Florida Gators can figure out the quarterback position in 2017, we could see just how good Callaway can be.
