There are 73 days remaining till college football season, and today we focus on one of the newest members of the SEC.

The Texas A&M Aggies joined the SEC in 2012, and instantly took a step forward as a program. In four years under Mike Sherman, the Aggies went 26-25. Then Kevin Sumlin took over in 2012 and the Aggies went 11-2 behind Heisman winner Johnny Manziel.

In five years under Sumlin, the Aggies have gone 44-21, including three straight 8-5 seasons. And that leads us to no. 73 on the Southbound and Down College Football Countdown.

Texas A&M Aggies are 7-3 against the SEC East since joining the SEC in 2012.

Texas A&M has had a wacky schedule since joining the SEC. When they first joined the SEC, the SEC assigned Missouri and Texas A&M, the two former Big 12 teams, as locked rivals, but then the conference decided to change it up. Now Texas A&M plays South Carolina every year and Missouri plays Arkansas every year.

But despite being in the SEC for five years now, the Aggies still haven’t played everyone in the SEC. Here is Texas A&M’s record against every team in the SEC East:

More from Southbound and Down

South Carolina: 3-0

Missouri: 1-2

Vanderbilt: 2-0

Tennessee: 1-0

Florida: 0-1

Georgia: 0-0

Kentucky: 0-0

The Aggies have taken care of business against the SEC East, going 7-3 against the division. The only three losses came to Missouri in 2013 and 2014 when they won the East in back-to-back seasons and to Florida in 2012 when they went 11-2.

Texas A&M has yet to play Kentucky or Georgia since joining the conference, and that will continue this year when the Aggies host South Carolina and travel to Florida. In 2018, they will finally host Kentucky, and in 2019, they’ll travel to Georgia.

While the SEC East hasn’t been the strongest division since the Texas A&M Aggies joined the SEC, all you can do is beat who’s on your schedule, and the Aggies have done an excellent job of that.
