There are 56 days till college football season, and today we take a look back at one of the worst beatdowns from the 2016 season.

There are plenty of lopsided games over the course of a college football season, but those typically happen against FCS or small conference opponents. But the Auburn Tigers gave an ol’ fashioned beatdown to one of the conference foes last season.

And that leads us to no. 56 on the Southbound and Down College Football Countdown.

Auburn scored 56 points in their 56-3 win over Arkansas in 2016

Must Read: Aggies have big shoes to fill on offense

After two early losses last season, Auburn started to hit their stride midseason, and that was never more evident than in their win over Arkansas. The Tigers entered the Oct. 22 matchup with a 4-2 record and a no. 21 national ranking. The Razorbacks, on the other hand, came in at 5-2 with a no, 17 national ranking.

After forcing a three-and-out on the opening possession, Auburn handed the ball to freshman wide receiver Eli Stove on the first play from scrimmage, and he took it 78 yards for a touchdown, setting the tone for what was to come the rest of the game.

More from Southbound and Down

Auburn was up 21-0 by the end of the first quarter, and led 28-3 at halftime. But they didn’t stop there. They put up another 28-spot in the second half to win 56-3.

The Tigers simply couldn’t be stopped in this game. They rushed 57 times for 543 yards and 7 touchdowns. Kamryn Pettway led the way with 27 carries for 192 yards and two touchdowns, but he was not the only one carrying the load.

Six different players got carries in this game, and five different players scored touchdowns. Even Sean White ran for 61 yards and a rushing touchdown.

And on the other side, Auburn held Arkansas, a team who wants to run the ball, 25 rushing yards on 31 carries. The Tigers outgained the Razorbacks 632-215 in total offense.

The Tigers got all the way up to no. 8 last season after starting 7-2, but lost three of their last four games to close the season. The Tigers bring back Pettway and Kerryon Johnson (who didn’t even play in that Arkansas game), so their rushing attack should be dangerous against this season.
