There are 55 days till college football season, and today we focus on the best running back tandem in college football.

The Georgia Bulldogs have a long tradition of great running backs, and the two they have right now might be the best duo of running backs that they’ve ever had. These two sensational backs surprised and probably disappointed everyone in the SEC when they announced that they were returning for their senior seasons in Athens.

And that leads us to no. 55 on the Southbound and Down College Football Countdown.

Georgia’s Nick Chubb and Sony Michel have 55 combined career touchdowns

Nick Chubb and Sony Michel each came to Georgia as the gems of their 2014 signing class. Michel was five-star prospect and was the no. 3 ranked running back and no. 19 over all player according to 247sports’ composite rankings. While Chubb was also a five-star prospect, ranking as the no. 5 running back and no. 33 overall player.

And the Bulldogs brought those two in while they already had another great duo in Athens of Todd Gurley and Keith Marshall.

Nick Chubb

Chubb busted onto the scene as a freshman in 2014. Gurley was suspended for four games that season after signing autographs and the freshman from Cedartown, Ga. took over. And all Chubb did was start the final eight games of the season and rush for 1,547 yards and 14 touchdowns.

And after missing the final eight games of his sophomore season, Chubb bounced back for 1,130 yards and eight touchdowns last season, but he just didn’t look like the Chubb we saw running through SEC defenses as a freshman.

Sony Michel

Michel has been the complimentary guy for nearly his whole career Between the Hedges. He is the more dynamic playmaker of the two, and makes a much bigger impact in the passing game, which is what makes this duo work so well together.

He was third on the depth chart as a freshman, then as a sophomore, he showed what he could do in a featured role. After Chubb went down in 2015, he started the final eight games and rushed for 1,161 yards and eight touchdowns.

2016 was pretty much the first full season that the Chubb/Michel duo was healthy, and the two combined to rush for 1,970 yards and 12 touchdowns.

If the Georgia Bulldogs are going to make it as far as they want in 2017, they’re going to need to ride the coattails of their dynamic duo in the backfield.
