There are 53 days till college football season, and today we talk about what separates the SEC from all the other conferences in college football, NFL talent.

Despite what SEC football fans may think, the SEC is not the best conference every season. There are some great coaches throughout the country, and certain years it just works out that another conference may be better. The ACC was widely believed to be the best conference last year, but the NFL Draft showed which conference had the best players.

The talent in the SEC is second-to-none, and that leads us to no. 53 on the Southbound and Down College Football Countdown.

Not only did the SEC lead the way with 53 players selected in the seven rounds of the NFL Draft, they also led the way with 12 first-round picks. The Big Ten was second with seven first round picks, and the ACC was second with 43 total selections.

Myles Garett, Texas A&M, was the sixth SEC player in the last 14 years to be selected no. 1 overall, following Jadeveon Clowney (2013), Cam Newton (2011), Matthew Stafford (2009), JaMarcus Russell (2007), and Eli Manning (2004).

2017 was also the sixth time in the last seven years that the SEC has had more draft picks than any other conference, and it will probably happen again in 2018.

Last week, Sports Illustrated released their list of the top 100 players in college football, and you may have guessed it, the SEC led the way with 25 players on that list.
