There are 19 days till college football season, and today we take a look at the dominance of the Alabama dynasty.

We all know about the dominance of the Alabama football program. Since Nick Saban arrived in Tuscaloosa, he elevated the Crimson Tide to a level the college football world hasn’t seen in decades. In his 10 seasons at Alabama, he has won four national championships and six SEC championships, including each of the last three.

He’s also turned Alabama into a recruiting juggernaut. According to 247sports’ recruiting rankings, Alabama has had the no. 1 ranked recruiting class every year since 2011, and it’s progressed to the next level as well. Alabama has had 22 players selected in the first round since Saban arrived. Florida has the second most during that time with 14.

And while that statistic is impressive, you’ll find a lot of stats like that when talking about the Alabama football program. But every once in a while you stumble upon a statistic that absolutely blows you mind. And that leads us to no. 19 on the Southbound and Down College Football Countdown.

Alabama has lost 19 games in 10 years since Nick Saban took over

Southbound and Down Countdown: 20: Another bowl game for the Dawgs

19 losses in 10 years. Let that sink in. That is an absolutely mind-blowing statistic. Over that time period, Alabama has played 138 games. To put that in perspective we decided to go through every SEC team to see how many games they’ve played since their last 19 losses.

More from Southbound and Down

  • Alabama – 138 (2007)
  • Georgia – 67 (2011)
  • LSU – 64 (2011)
  • Auburn – 54 (2012)
  • Texas A&M – 50 (2013)
  • Mississippi State – 50 (2013)
  • Ole Miss – 48 (2013)
  • Tennessee – 46 (2013)
  • Florida – 45 (2013)
  • Arkansas – 41 (2013)
  • Missouri – 40 (2013)
  • South Carolina – 31 (2014)
  • Kentucky – 31 (2014)
  • Vanderbilt – 30 (2014)

Almost three-fourths of the SEC has lost 19 games in less than four years, while it’s taken Saban and the Crimson Tide 10 years to lose 19 games. Both LSU and Georgia date back to the final game of the 2011 season. And the second-best on this list, Georgia with 67 games, has not even played half the games that Alabama has.

Alabama is currently on a 1-game losing streak, but that will change very soon. They lost several starters from their dominant 2016 defense, but that’s the nature of Alabama football. It’s going to be next man up. They replace 5-stars with more 5-stars. Expect another great season in Tuscaloosa.
