There are 15 days till college football season, and today we focus on a man who has been all over the Southeastern Conference.

Will Muschamp has traveled all over the SEC as a player, as an assistant, and now as the head coach of the South Carolina Gamecocks. After starting his playing career at the Georgia, Muscahmp was defensive backs coach and defensive coordinator at LSU, defensive coordinator at Auburn, then head coach at Florida before going back to defensive coordinator at Auburn, and he’s now in Columbia, SC.

Not only has Muschamp been a part of five different SEC programs, over a third of the conference, but he’s also seemed to go to some of his alma mater, Georgia’s biggest rivals. And that leads us to no. 15 on the Southbound and Down College Football Countdown.

Will Muschamp is 1 for 5 against his alma mater Georgia as a head coach

In Muschamp’s first gig as head coach of the Florida Gators, he struggled against the Georgia Bulldogs, and Florida coaches never struggle against Georgia. Even Ron Zook went 2-1 in his three underwhelming years in Gainesville. Muschamp was at Florida from 2011 to 2014, and Georgia won three straight before the Gators upset the Bulldogs 38-20 in 2014.

More from Southbound and Down

In 2012, the Bulldogs handed Muschamp and the Gators their only loss of the regular season. Jacksonville wasn’t kind to Muschamp as a player either. Georgia went 0-4 against the Gators in his four years in Athens.

Muschamp even struggled against Georgia as an assistant. He went 2-1 against the Bulldogs while at LSU, but he went 0-3 in his separate stops at Auburn.

Coach Champ is now 0-1 against Georgia as the head man at South Carolina after last year’s 28-14 loss, but he seems to have picked up where Steve Spurrier left off as SEC Media Days jokester.

South Carolina has had success in recent years against the Bulldogs, and if Will Muschamp is going to get the Gamecocks back to the success of the Spurrier days, he’s going to have to start by beating his alma mater, Georgia.
