  • The SEC has five teams placed in this year’s NCAA Tournament, and every one of those teams has a different path laid in front of them to reach that holy of hardwood holies, the Final Four.

This year’s Final Four will be held in Indianapolis, In. at Lucas Oil Stadium, on April 4-6, but every one of our SEC contenders will have few stops around the country before they land in Indianapolis.

Can travel fatigue have an effect on how teams perform? Absolutely. Traveling can be one of the most exhausting parts of a tournament like this, and too many miles can equal a sub-par performance.

The No. 1 overall seed Kentucky Wildcats will begin their journey at home, in Louisville, Ky., and then will continue their path towards the perfect season. From there they would potentially head to Cleveland, Oh. and then on to Indianapolis.

    Total Mileage – Louisville>Cleveland>Indianapolis: 664 miles

No. 5 seed Arkansas will begin play in the midwest region in Jacksonville, Fl., and will try to avoid the all-too-lethal 12 vs. 5 upset. From there they’d move on to the regionals in Los Angeles, Ca. and then to the Final Four destination.

    Total Mileage – Fayetteville>Jacksonville>Los Angeles>Indianpolis: 5,492 miles

LSU will carry their No. 9 seed in the east region to Pittsburgh, Pa. and then travel on from there to meet come possible familiar foes. Syracuse, N.Y. would be their stop for the regional action, and then onward to Lucas Oil Stadium.

    Total Mileage – Baton Rouge>Pittsburgh>Syracuse>Indianapolis: 2,150 miles

No. 10 seed Georgia has their hands full in Charlotte, N.C. with a tournament tough Michigan State squad, but if they can fight past Sparty, their travels could lighten up. From Charlotte they’d follow the same path as LSU.

    Total Mileage – Athens>Charlotte>Syracuse>Indianapolis: 1,571 miles

And finally, No. 11 seed Ole Miss will have the conference’s only first round game, as they try to get into the field of 64 starting in Jacksonville as well. Getting out of Jacksonville would take the Rebels on the same path that Arkansas had to travel.

    Total Mileage – Oxford>Jacksonville>Los Angeles>Indianapolis: 5,124 miles

That’s some tough travels for both Arkansas and Ole Miss, while Georgia and Kentucky have the much less taxing travel schedules of the five teams.
