The Kentucky Wildcats are the last men standing for the SEC in the 2015 NCAA Tournament.
It began with five. Then was down to two.
Kentucky Wildcats
Down goes Arkansas.
The Razorbacks couldn’t find a way to beat those North Carolina Tar Heels, dropping their Round of 32 game to the boys in powder blue, 87-78. It was a good run for the Hogs, who hadn’t been to the NCAA Tournament since 2008.
Now it’s up to Big Blue Nation to carry the SEC banner through the rest of the tournament. Honestly, I’m not sure that banner could be in better hands.
Kentucky has hardly been challenged to this point in either of their postseason tournaments, running the gamut of the SEC Tournament without resistance, and now dispatching of both Hampton and Cincinnati on their way to the Sweet 16 and an unprecedented 36-0 record.
But now, as they say, it’s about to get real.
The Wildcats next game will be against either No. 5 seed West Virginia or No. 4 seed Maryland, who face off tonight. Both are tough draws for the Wildcats, and the Mountaineers in particular could be a real test for UK. Then again, every time it seems Kentucky is going to be tested, they flip the switch and just boat-race their opponents.
John Calipari has this team believing they are vulnerable, when really, they don’t seem to be. Like their feline namesake, they almost appear to toy with opponents, and then move in for the kill when they get bored.
For now, Kentucky has a few days off to rest and plan before their Sweet 16 game in Cleveland, Oh. Then Big Blue Nation has to deal with the Mountaineers or the Terrapins.
