SEC Football: Former 5-Star OL Reportedly Transferring to Auburn

SEC football news is usually big, and when a former 5-star prospect leaves the Big 12 to join the SEC that makes for some big news.

The SEC — and more specifically, the Auburn Tigers — are getting a big addition this year, as AL.com is reporting that former 5-star offensive line prospect Darius James has announced he will be leaving the Texas Longhorns to join the Tigers in 2015.

Because yeah, Gus Malzahn needs some help on that already formidable offensive line. The addition of a 5-star, 6-foot-5, 305-pound center/tackle will have folks in the SEC West shaking their heads and beefing up their defensive lines.

James, who hails from Harker Heights, Tx., will have to sit out one season in compliance with NCAA rules, but that may be to his advantage as his 2014 season was cut short due to a knee injury. A year off to strengthen and rehab that knee will only serve him better in 2016 when he becomes eligible.

Prior to committing to Texas last season, James was the number five overall prospect in the talent-rich state of Texas, and the number one rated offensive guard in the nation according to 247 Sports composite rankings. His partial season with Charlie Strong’s offense in Texas obviously didn’t pan out the way he’d hoped.

Strong had reported that James did not practice during the team’s spring drills due to the prior injury as well as academic issues.
