The fan bases and stadiums in the Southeastern Conference have brought the conference to new heights over the years. In 2014, the 14 SEC teams recorded 40 wins and 3 losses in games played at home against out of conference opponents. The SEC leads all conferences in average fan attendance at 78,000 fans per game between the 14 teams.
Why is it so tough to win on the road in the SEC? The fans. SEC fans are some of the most rowdiest and loudest crowds around. They can make it very uncomfortable for any opponent when they visit. It has to be intimidating to a team coming to play in a place like Baton Rouge late Saturday night and hear the announcer on the PA system say ” Ladies and Gentleman, it’s Saturday night in Tiger Stadium.”
The roar of the crowd, the excitement of 85 to 100 thousand voices screaming for the home team’s name, would make any football team coming into an SEC stadium just a wee bit uncomfortable.
Here are the top five most difficult places to play in the SEC.
