SEC teams open play in NCAA Super Regionals

This weekend 16 of the nation’s top Division I baseball teams will try and punch their tickets to the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska. Five of those 16 teams are from the Southeastern Conference.

Arkansas, No. 4 Florida, No. 2 LSU, Texas A&M and Vanderbilt are all set to open up Super Regional play Friday and Saturday.

A shot at the National Championship is on the line and the road to Omaha only tougher gets this weekend. But these top SEC contenders could potentially make up five of the eight teams in the CWS once the Supers end Monday.

For the Vanderbilt Commodores, a chance at history is on the line during their Super Regional in Champagne, Illinois. The Commodores would only become the 7th team to repeat as national champions in Division I baseball history.

Vanderbilt and A&M will travel for the’ Super Regionals, while Florida, LSU and Arkansas will all host on their home fields.

A side note: all four finalists for the USA Baseball’s Golden Spikes Award are from the SEC and will put their talents on display this weekend in Super Regional play.
