Arkansas Football: Jonathan Williams to Miss Part of 2015 Season

facebooktwitterreddit

Bret Bielema had to make an unfortunate announcement Sunday.  Arkansas running back Jonathan Williams will miss a good portion of the the 2015 season.  This is an unfortunate loss for the Razorbacks and the Arkansas faithful will be disappointed with the news.

If any fans would like to contact Arkansas or Jonathan Williams, I’m providing a link here.  I have no doubt Williams would love to receive some fan mail.  Consider sending notes that wish him well and a speedy recovery via the athletics department of Arkansas.

According to arkansasrazorbacks.com, Jonathan Williams hurt his ankle in a scrimmage Saturday.  Williams is expected to eventually make a full recovery, but this could be a major blow to Arkansas in 2015.

Jonathan Williams will be missed by all associated with the Razorbacks program and all are wishing him a speedy recovery.  Along with Alex Collins, Arkansas has had a tremendous backfield that struck fear into many opponents.

Alex Collins is certainly a capable SEC running back himself.  Going from two potential NFL running backs on the same team to just one, however, is certainly a tough loss.  It is especially a blow to a team that loves to rush the ball as often as Arkansas.  Being able to rotate two players the caliber of Collins and Williams was viewed as a huge part of the Razorbacks potentially breaking through in the SEC West in 2015.

  • Injuries happen in sports, though.  Williams’ injury means other players will have to step up and step in.  Such is life in the SEC, as it is in all leagues and all sports.

Williams’ absence will likely mean an opportunity for Rawleigh Williams III and Kody Walker at running back.   Each will have to share some of the load with Alex Collins.

It also means Brandon Allen may have to throw the ball more than Bielema was originally planning.  This would also create opportunities for Arkansas’ wide receivers, as well as tight end Hunter Henry.
