The Week 3 Amway Coach’s Poll was released today and saw several teams fall in the rankings.  While most SEC teams that saw movement went in the wrong direction, a few teams managed to improve their rankings.

Risers

Georgia rose one spot in the polls, thanks largely to Auburn falling back.  Georgia did nothing to impress nor worry voters with their 31-14 victory over Vanderbilt.

Ole Miss managed to climb 3 spots in the poll to #11, nearly making their showdown with Alabama next week a top 10 matchup.  Ole Miss has done what they were supposed to in dominating inferior opponents and climbed mostly due to teams losing (Oregon) or failing to impress (Auburn).

LSU rose only one spot despite defeating a top 25 opponent.  While they have one of the best wins of the season so far, LSU failed to impress many voters in a game they won on a missed last second field goal.

Texas A&M rose one spot.  Much like Ole Miss, they did what they were supposed to this week and annihilated inferior competition.  A&M rose because Arkansas could not do the same, falling to MAC team Toledo.

Missouri also somehow managed to rise one spot, despite barely defeating Arkansas State.  I understand giving the Tigers the benefit of the doubt to an extent, but seeing the Tigers rise in the poll is a touch much.

Fallers

Auburn managed to pull of the rare feat of being an SEC team that wins a game and still manages to free fall in the rankings.  The Tigers took the biggest fall down the rankings this week after needing overtime to defeat FCS foe Jacksonville State.

Arkansas pulled off an even more impressive feat than Auburn, managing to fall completely out of the rankings after losing to Toledo.  Yes.  Toledo.  Somewhere, Urban Meyer is smiling.

Tennessee also fell out of the top 25.  There loss would have been understandable, as they faced fellow top 25 team Oklahoma, if they had not been leading by 17 at home before falling apart.

Other

Alabama, #2, was the only SEC team to maintain their standing from the week before.

Mississippi State fell a little but is the default #30 team, having finished 5th in the “others receiving votes” category.
