SEC Heisman Hopefuls
Matt Bush-USA TODAY Sports
4. Dak Prescott
Hold up. Is there somebody writing an article about SEC Heisman contenders and the only two quarterbacks listed are playing for teams in Mississippi? Wait, it isn’t even debatable? Dak Prescott led the Heisman race for much of the 2014 season before a drop-off at the end of the season and some negative off season attention had people questioning Dak’s focus.
Prescott is a two-point conversion away from being amongst the national contenders for Heisman again this year. I would blame the kicker, but asking any college kid to nail a 52 yard game winner isn’t impossible . . . but it is a last resort. Seeing the recent performances of the LSU defense, it makes Dak’s stat line of 335 yards on 32/54 passing even more impressive, but he where he failed was in only getting 1 touchdown pass. Dak Prescott will have plenty of opportunities this year to reach national Heisman relevance again, but he will need to put more balls in the end zone after his team’s loss to LSU and closer-than-it-should-have-been victory against Southern Miss. Because of his opportunities, and performances from last year, we can’t justify dropping him lower than 4th on our current list.
