Dak Prescott, QB, Mississippi State

– Sure his team won the game over Auburn, but is that really saying a lot? Even Prescott knew after the game that his play was average at best saying “I did enough I guess.”

Is that what you want out of the supposed best quarterback in the conference? I don’t think so. I have continually said how I think that Prescott is overrated and I think this week backs up that claim.

Prescott threw for 270 yards and two touchdowns while adding 14 yards on the ground against an Auburn defense that a week ago had gaps the size of a black hole in their coverages and couldn’t do a single thing to stop the run.

Prescott should have dominated this hurting Auburn team and the Bulldog’s defense should have stepped up as well. A redshirt freshman quarterback in for Auburn shouldn’t have led his team to nine points against a top ranked opponent. I want Mississippi State to fall and fall hard against Texas A&M in week 5, but I think they will pull out another close victory in College Station.

Vanderbilt’s running game

– This week against Ole Miss, Vandy couldn’t get anything going on the ground. On 43 rushing attempts the Commodores only gained 128 yards. And their quarterback Johnny McCrary, who landed on week 3’s best of the week list, didn’t help his team much either.

McCrary threw for 194 yards and one touchdown but couldn’t dominate offensively against a solid SEC defense. McCrary had seven carries in week 4 that resulted in a total of 11 yards for the quarterback as the ‘Landshark’ Defense claimed its most recent prey.

Although the Commodores put up a fight against Ole Miss on Saturday, if they would have had a contribution from the running game — besides Ralph Webb’s 90 yards on 25 touches resulting in zero points — the game could’ve been a lot closer than the 16-27 final score.

Missouri

For the second straight week the Missouri Tigers end up on the worst of the week list … and this week its because they lost a game.

Last week, the Tigers pulled one out, winning 9-6 over UCONN.  But this week against Kentucky, keeping the game close didn’t work in Missouri’s favor.

After putting up the only points of the game through the first quarter and leading 7-0, the Tigers couldn’t find the end zone for the remainder of the evening. The Tigers again relied on the leg of kicker Andrew Baggett who is 6-for-7 on field goal attempts this season. But three points on a few possessions is not enough against a team like Kentucky, who continues to improve week after week.

Wildcat quarterback Patrick Towles was phenomenal in this game, throwing for 249 yards and two touchdowns while completing 22 of his 27 passing attempts. This was a real rebound game for Kentucky in Lexington after a home loss to Florida in week 3.

I originally thought Missouri was going to win the SEC East this year and challenge Georgia for the spot in the SEC Championship game.  Following the last two weeks, though, I’d say Mizzou has zero chance of winning the SEC East  — especially if they continue to not score touchdowns.
