4. Kyle Allen
Texas A&M fans beware. This spot has a jinx on it that is proving strong the last couple of weeks. Good Luck.
A quick look at the stat sheet and you may wonder why I have Allen above Kelly, but a closer look tells a different story. Kyle Allen is averaging 9.2 yards per attempt, 2nd only to Kelly’s 9.9 yards per attempt. Allen leads the conference with a 13:2 TD:INT ratio, and leads the SEC with a passer rating of 169.0. Kyle Allen leads the most “pass happy” offense the SEC has seen since the (good) Spurrier days at the University of Florida.
Don’t say he hasn’t done it without being under pressure either. He came through when it mattered most when his team was on the ropes against Arkansas. He led the charge in dismantling Arizona State, definitively defeating Mississippi State. That’s not the pressure I’m talking about though this time. He’s done all this knowing that everyone is just waiting for Kyler Murray to get his turn. Kyler Murray is his back up quarterback, aka the number 1 ranked dual threat quarterback in the country, Gatorade National Player of the Year, and son of former Texas A&M quarterback Kevin Murray.
Kyle Allen has a chance this weakend against Alabama to really make a name for himself, and establish himself as THE MAN in College Station. Whether or not he can do it is to be determined.
