Mississippi Rebels (7-2) (4-1, SEC)

Remaining Games: vs. Arkansas, vs. LSU, at Mississippi State

Why they’ll make it: Hugh Freeze and the Rebels paddled Texas A&M last Saturday night in Oxford and look like they’re back in midseason form. Chad Kelly can really make throws when he’s on and the spread offense allows him to really flourish. It doesn’t hurt to have weapons like Laqon Treadwell to throw to either.

The Rebels’ 28th ranked defense isn’t the same Landsharks as last year, but I’d guarantee most schools in the country would be happy to have Robert Nckemdiche and the rest of the gang.

Unfortunately for Rebs’ fans everywhere, it’ll be hard to get into College Football’s Playoff no matter what they do at this point. Never say never in this world, though, because a few upsets could have us speaking a different tune. Don’t hang your hat on these Rebels just yet.

Why they won’t make it: Even if they win out, there end-game might be just to act as a parasite to the Southeastern Conference’s playoff plans. A loss to Memphis didn’t do Ole Miss or the SEC any favors.

It’ll be a tough go to win out and Texas A&M doesn’t look like the resume-builder it used to be. We’ll see if Freeze can survive this western gauntlet.
