The SEC basketball season has been entertaining to say the least. Everybody seems to be beating everybody. Every week there are multiple unexpected outcomes. It makes a weekly power ranking impossible, l but that’s what makes this all so much fun. Disagree with my rankings? Let us know your comments, but beware — he coming week could prove you wrong.
14. (14.) Missouri 8-16 (1-10)- Loss streak currently sitting at 9.
13. (12.) Auburn 9-14 (3-8)- Since beating Kentucky and Alabama in back to back nights, the Tigers have lost 6 straight games by double digits and continue to fall down our SEC Basketball Power Rankings.
12. (13.) Mississippi State 10-13 (3-8)- Coach Ben Howland and company are showing signs of improvement. Any time you can win a conference game by over 30 points people take notice.

11. (6.) Arkansas 12-12 (5-6)- The Razorbacks fall the most of any of our teams in the SEC Basketball
Power Rankings this week. When you lose to Mississippi State by 32 points, that is what happens.
10. (9.) Tennessee 12-12 (5-6)- Beating Kentucky seems guarantee to a loss in your next game. Tennessee lost at Arkansas by 18, and then beat Auburn by 26. It’s got to be frustrating to be a Tennessee fan and watch Kevin Punter’s scoring go to waste.
9. (10.) Ole Miss 15-9 (5-6)- Ole Miss gave Florida all they could handle in a 5 point loss in Gainesville, but the Rebels had a great win at home against Vanderbilt. A consistent Stephon Moody that takes care of the ball could have this team as a serious contender.
8. (11.) Alabama 14-9 (5-6)- Coach Avery Johnson and his Alabama team can take pride in the fact that they play harder than anybody in the conference, and it has paid off with a 3 game win streak. That win streak includes a nail biter 63-62 victory in Tuscaloosa against No. 15 Texas A&M.
7. (6.) Georgia 13-9 (6-5)- Georgia had their chance to prove to us all that they were to be taken seriously, and then they blew it. They shot 22 percent from the field and lost 82-48. It could’ve been worse because they got 23 of those points from the free throw line. We’ll chalk this up to a bad day, but that was mind-numbingly bad basketball Georgia played against Kentucky.
6. (7.) Vanderbilt 14-10 (6-5)- Losing to Ole Miss and beating Missouri don’t help you move up the SEC Power Rankings, but the team in front of you losing by 34 will help.
5. (5.) LSU 15-9 (8-3)- Ben Simmons is amazing. Against South Carolina, he even had help from Antonio Blakeney. The two combined to shoot 16 for 26, while the rest of the team shot a paltry 13 for 35. If Ben Simmons supporting cast could rise to the occasion, then LSU could take the next step.
4. (3.) Florida 16-8 (7-4)- UF’s hot hand from beyond the 3-point line seems to have cooled off. Kentucky beat UF in Lexington by 19, and Ole Miss played Florida to the buzzer in Gainesville. Gators fans have to be excited about the development of Chris Chiozza. He has visibly progressed all season, and it was good to see Florida to hold on against Ole Miss as Chiozza struggled.
3. (4.) South Carolina 21-3 (8-3)- They have had some disappointing losses since entering conference play,
but back to back wins @ Texas A&M and vs LSU were impressive. Now, South Carolina has the chance for us all to take them serious and it couldn’t be set up better for them. They get Kentucky at home Feb 13. and a win could catapult the program to the top of our SEC Basketball Power Rankings.
2. (1.) #15 Texas A&M 18-6 (7-4)- Texas A&M finds themselves on a bit of a skid, but I’m not going to overreact. Their latest loss had to be hard to watch for A&M fans. Anthony Collins got to attempt 2 free throws with his team down 63-62 at Alabama and Collin was 28-30 stepping up to the line. So, of course, he missed them both and Alabama went on to win 63-62. They have another road game coming up against LSU and it’ll be interesting to see how #15 Texas A&M responds to their recent woes. Look up the odds, but I’d bet a whole lot of money that #15 Texas A&M pulls off the road win this weekend.

1. (2.) #22 Kentucky 18-6 (8-3)- Has Kentucky turned the corner? Maybe they have, but I see them dropping 1 game in the next week and a half. They have games @ South Carolina and @ #15 Texas A&M. You know it is a crazy year when it wouldn’t be a surprise if #22 Kentucky loses both of those games.
