I can only imagine the mood in Athens in regards to their Georgia football program this spring. Mark Richt is no longer in town, and has since become the head coach of Miami. I can’t help but think that there is a small tinge in the back of Georgia fans’ minds that maaayyyyyyybe this isn’t such a good idea….
I don’t blame them.
Kirby Smart coached an excellent defense under Nick Saban. No doubt about it. Kirby Smart brings in discipline, and a new energy to the program. Defense has been lacking in recent years and he should be able to implement improvements immediately.
I’m more interested to see what the Georgia offense looks like at G-Day. Georgia remembers what happened to fellow SEC East foe Florida and Will Muschamp. Florida went and hired a star defensive coordinator to his first head coaching job. I feel like Georgia fans should be bothered by the fact that they were happy Will Muschamp got hired at South Carolina thinking that’d make for an easier win, because they just did the exact same thing as Florida did a few years back. Is Kirby Smart the next Will Muschamp?
Next: Barry Odom, wait, who?
