Kirby Smart doesn’t have to look far to see what missing a quarterback can do to your first head coaching job at a premier college football program. The lack of an offense for former Gators’ head coach Will Muschamp ultimately cost him his job, and we all said that if he had just had a quarterback, he would have been able to do something.
Across the internet, I see everyone giving Georgia love heading into this year. I can see why. Kirby Smart can lead the defense to becoming a feared juggernaut, and Jacob Eason is the quarterback Will Muschamp never had in Gainesville.
Ah. That is where we are all wrong. Will Muschamp had his highly touted quarterback. Do you remember Jeff Driskel?

Whoa, whoa, whoa Georgia fan feverishly scrolling to the bottom of the page to leave a nasty comment about how Eason isn’t the same player as Driskel, I get that. I’m just saying that Muschamp was SUPPOSED to have found his star quarterback too.
Driskel was ranked as the number 1 dual threat quarterback coming out of high school by 247sports.com. 247sports gave him a composite score of .9915, and he was the 16th ranked player in the entire country.
Eason is different because he has a cannon of an arm, and he is in fact a pro-style quarterback. 247sports has him ranked as the number 2 overall pro-style quarterback, 5th best prospect in the nation, and has a composite score of .9973.
But can a defensive-minded, first-time head coach develop the talent like everyone expects?
The fact that he is still in competition with Greyson Lambert and Brice Ramsey would have me concerned as a Georgia fan. We’ve seen what Lambert is about and well, that won’t be pretty to see again this year.
And hell, Brice Ramsey is better as a punter.

“I’m glad everyone came out and got to see Jacob Eason, but the guy who starts the game against North Carolina is the guy who gives us the best chance to win,” Kirby Smart stated after the scrimmage for G-Day. “Our fan base is going to support whoever is put out there.”
Whoever you put out there better win Coach, because that support you speak of doesn’t stretch all the way out to the sidelines. The support stops inside the field of play unless your boys win, and we can assure you that much is true. Here’s to hoping that Jacob Eason does for you what Jeff Driskel couldn’t do for your counterpart, because if he can’t…..well, you know.
