Texas A&M football stud Myles Garrett will likely be in a heated battle all season to be the SEC sack king with Carl Lawson.  My money is on Garrett.

Texas A&M football hasn’t exactly been known for their defense since Kevin Sumlin took over, but he did well when his team added Myles Garrett.  The addition of John Chavis has made the defense respectable and we’ve also seen improvements for Myles Garrett.  The Texas A&M football star will have his best season yet and lead the conference in sacks in 2016.

I say best season yet like he hasn’t already been dominating.  His 12.5 sacks led the conference in 2015, so it’s just more of the same for him.  But its rare to see a player lead the conference in sacks in back-to-back season.  If any defensive player has the potential to do it, it is Garrett.  The team he plays on will help a lot as well.

Texas A&M football runs an air-raid type season under Kevin Sumlin.  That will lead to opposing offenses getting on the field early and often in 2016 and often attempting to pass the ball to keep up with the Aggies.  This combination will lead to a ton of sack opportunities for Garrett.

That’s not good news for opposing offensive tackles facing the #1 College Football Freak according to Bruce Feldman of Fox Sports. Feldman had this to say:

The SEC’s leader in sacks (12.5), tackles for loss (19.5) and forced fumbles (five) despite seeing an array of double teams . . . The junior has off-the-charts workout numbers. He told me this month he power cleans 440 pounds and bench-presses 485 — staggering when you consider he also has a 40-inch vertical and his fastest 40 time at A&M, he said, is 4.45.  Scary thought: Garrett doesn’t turn 21 until December.

Texas A&M football is just at an unfair advantage when it has Garrett on the field.  Auburn’s Carl Lawson will give him a run for his money, but Myles Garrett will get the job done.  The guy is an absolute stud and will lead the conference in sacks in 2016.  He is one of the reasons I am picking Texas A&M to be the surprise team of 2016.
