As we continue to dream of SEC football, we’ll look at each team and tell you who their best player is.  South Carolina football is up next, and their best player is a seasoned veteran in senior linebacker T.J. Holloman.

Each SEC football team has at least a few studs.  Whether it be their middle linebacker, corner, wide receiver or quarterback, each fan base has THAT dude.  Who is that dude for South Carolina football?

First of all, South Carolina football was a massive disappointment in Steve Spurrier’s final season.  Spurrier brought South Carolina further than any other coach in their history, though he left them hanging out to dry in 2016.  As time passes, though, fans will remember the Spurrier years fondly.   As a result, Muschamp has a tall task in front of him.

Spurrier, however, did leave the cupboard pretty bare overall for Will Muschamp.  It will be up to Muschamp and his staff to reinvent South Carolina football under their leadership.  At least the defensive guru has a beefed up T.J. Holloman to get him on the right track.  Most of all, he’ll depend on the senior’s leadership and experience.  That has to be considered a factor when determining the best player on a college team.

South Carolina fans would probably rather have Skai Moore healthy, though the linebacker will be unable to compete all season due to a neck injury.  While Muschamp would agree, Holloman will be able to man the middle on his own just fine.  He comes in as the leading returning tackler and could be in for a 100 stops this season.  While South Carolina football fans may consider defensive end Marquavius Lewis their best player, there is no doubt Holloman’s success will determine the success of the Gamecock’s defense in 2016.

Over the course of Holloman’s career, the linebacker has shown he can be productive at any linebacker spot.  If South Carolina football is going to be bowl eligible in 2016, you can bet Holloman had a great season.  As a result, South Carolina football fans will be watching their defense closely.  Another point to consider would be who was considered on this list.  How weird is it, though, that the only players considered for this title were defensive players?  This was Steve Spurrier’s roster after all.
