The SEC Football season is already a third of the way done. As conference play continues we are starting to see things clear up in regards to our power rankings. Today we will give you our Week Five Rankings.

We’ll do the power rankings for all the SEC football teams like we did last time.  We’ll give a few reasons why they’re there, though we’ll do it in three sentences or less. The number to the right of the team’s name is their overall record, followed by their conference record, and then finally by their ranking in last week’s Southbound and Down SEC Football Power Rankings. Let’s dive in.

14. Vanderbilt 2-2 (0-1) LW:13

Vandy won this week against Western Kentucky. That was a good win. Nevertheless, they lost to South Carolina, who lost to Kentucky, so therefore Vandy is last for now.

13. South Carolina 2-2 (1-1) LW: 12

South Carolina’s offense is absolutely atrocious right now. The defense, however, seems decent. It’s too bad that you need to be competent at both to win games in the world of SEC Football.

12. Kentucky 2-2 (1-1) LW: 14

Don’t look now, but Kentucky is on a two game winning streak. The Wildcats looked like they were content to be last in the poll, but now they’re climbing on up. Too bad the streak is about to end when the Cats go to Tuscaloosa this weekend.

11. Mississippi State 2-2 (1-1) LW: 10

Mississippi State has a problem with cupcakes. They lost to South Alabama to kick off the season, and then nearly did the same against UMass this weekend. Nevertheless, they’re better than the three teams behind them.

10. Missouri 2-2 (0-1) LW: 11

The Tigers destroyed Delaware State on a level that I haven’t seen before. Still, it was just Delaware State, not exactly an impressive win. The Tigers can climb a few spots with a win over LSU this weekend.

9. Georgia 3-1 (1-1) LW: 7

The Dawgs got crushed by Ole Miss, exposing them as pretenders. The Bulldog offense is really struggling right now, and the defense is not much better. I think they may have another tough time this week against Tennessee.

8. LSU 2-2 (1-1) LW: 6

LSU had a victory stolen from them by the replay booth. As a result, Les Miles was fired. Will the team go into a tailspin, or will they come out with a renewed energy?

7. Auburn 2-2 (1-1) LW: 9

Auburn’s offense did enough against LSU, despite the fact that they never reached the end zone. The Tiger defense is a much improved unit this season. They, along with Daniel Carlson, should keep the Tigers in most games.

6. Florida 3-1 (1-1) LW: 3

The Gators started off hot but cooled down considerably in the second half. Luke Del Rio needs to get healthy, because he is sorely missed. Even without him the Gators should roll poor little Vandy this weekend.

5. Arkansas 3-1 (0-1) LW: 4

The Hogs are a good team, but they aren’t the great team that some thought they might be. Austin Allen is a cool customer, but the Hog running attack needs to find its footing. The defense also has some growing to do.

4. Ole Miss 2-2 (1-1) LW: 5

Ole Miss finally flexed their muscles on defense this season. The offense, led by Chad Kelly, was explosive as always. The Rebels are the best two loss team in the country.

3. Tennessee 4-0 (1-0) LW: 8

I have doubted Tennessee because of how they played against Appalachian State and Ohio. But the Volunteers really impressed me in the second half of the game against Florida this week. If they can sustain that level of play they will have a chance against anybody.

2. Texas A&M 4-0 (2-0) LW: 2

The Aggies look like a dominant team after their win against a solid Arkansas squad. Alabama is the only team standing between them and an SEC West title. The showdown in T-Town should be an absolute war.

1. Alabama 4-0 (1-0) LW: 1

Alabama cruised to an easy victory against Kent State. They will cruise to another easy victory against Kentucky this week. But then the Tide have three extremely tough games against Arkansas, Tennessee, and Texas A&M.
