SEC Football: Three Things We Watched for in Week Seven
Week Seven of SEC Football is officially in the books. That means it’s time for us to take a look back at our three things we watched for this week. Without further ado, let’s just dive right in.
3. How Does Luke Del Rio Look?
Extremely rusty. He completed just 18 of his 38 passes and tossed three interceptions. Fortunately for Florida fans, the Gator defense and running game picked up the slack against Missouri.
The Gators have a bye week this week, and then they face Georgia. The Bulldogs look pretty bad right now, but their run defense is solid. They’ll stack the box early and see if Del Rio can beat them. If he plays like he did this week then the Dawgs could score a big upset.
2. Who Wins the Quarterback Showdown in Fayetteville?
Austin Allen did, though both quarterbacks played well. Allen completed 19 of his 32 passes for 229 yards and three touchdowns. He also had an interception.
Meanwhile, Chad Kelly had a great game in his own right. Kelly wasn’t as sharp as normal through the air, completing just 18 of 39 passes, but he still racked up 253 yards and a touchdown along with one interception. But where Kelly really made the Hogs pay was on the ground. He rushed 14 times for 89 yards and two more touchdowns.
Despite Kelly’s great effort, Allen and the Hogs won the battle. The Razorbacks take on Auburn next week for what should be the deciding game for 3rd place in the SEC West. The Rebels take on LSU in what should be a great game.
1. Can Alabama Make it Ten in a Row Over Tennessee?
Absolutely. The Tide routed the Volunteers 49-10. It was complete domination on both sides of the ball from the opening whistle. Jalen Hurts and the Tide running backs had plenty of room to operate all day. And Tim Williams, Ryan Anderson, and Jonathan Allen were in the face of Josh Dobbs all game.
Alabama plays Texas A&M this week, in what is essentially the deciding game in the SEC West this season. If the Tide come out and crush the Aggies like they did the Volunteers then there is no one left on the schedule who can stop them.
