No. 11: South Carolina Gamecocks

Song Title: Step to the Rear

South Carolina’s fight song sounds more like an accompaniment to a Vaudeville pin-juggler than it does a football team’s rally cry.

While the chord structure is actually quite rich, the use of syncopation and offbeat accents make it difficult to find a solid beat with which to cheer along.

The worst part of this song? A section of the lyrics, where fans are literally forced to sing “And when it is rough, that’s when the ‘Cocks get going”.

Do tell.

For both music and lyrics, this one is a solid flop.
