There are 70 days till the start of the college football season, and today is about an old rivalry that was revived last season.

The Arkansas Razorbacks and TCU Horned Frogs were two long-time members of the Southwest Conference and their history goes way back. Arkansas was one of the eight charter members of the SWAC in 1915, and TCU joined in 1923.

And that brings us to no. 70 in the Southbound and Down College Football Countdown.

2016 will be the 70th meeting all-time between the Arkansas Razorbacks and TCU Horned Frogs

More from Southbound and Down

In 69 games so far in the series, Arkansas leads 44-23-2. The Razorbacks have won 31 of the last 34 in the series dating back to 1959, including 22 straight from ’59 to ’80.

These two teams played last year in Fort Worth, Tex. for the first time since 1991. The Horned Frogs scored 21 straight points to take a 28-20 lead in the fourth quarter. But Austin Allen led the Razorbacks down the field to force overtime.

But that touchdown drive was aided by TCU quarterback Kenny Hill. On his 5-yard touchdown run, he appeared to do a “throat-slash” gesture and received a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct, forcing the Horned Frogs to kick the ensuing kickoff from the 20-yard line.

After the game, Hill said that he was not doing a throat-slash, and that he was actually doing a religious gesture that was signifying the “Rising King.” But the call was made, and it undoubtedly helped Arkansas take the game to overtime. The Razorbacks prevailed in double overtime and won 41-38.

This year’s game will be played in Razorback Stadium in Fayetteville, and we get a game that was half as entertaining as last season, I think we’re all in for a treat.
