On Tuesday, the nation’s top running back for the class of 2018 announced his commitment to the Georgia Bulldogs over Clemson, North Carolina, Ohio State, and Alabama.

Five-star Zamir “Zeus” White is the no. 1 running back in the nation according to 247sports’ composite rankings, and the no. 6 overall recruit. The Georgia Bulldogs have been high on White’s list ever since Mark Richt and the old staff was in Athens, and on Monday he made it official.

White is from Scotland County HS in Laurinburg, NC and is listed at 6’1, 220 pounds. As a sophomore in 2015, he ran for 2,159 yards and 41 touchdowns. Then as a junior last season, he rushed for 1,693 yards and 26 touchdowns. He’s rushed for 5,083 yards and 85 touchdowns in his high school career and he still has one year left.

North Carolina Running Backs

White is the third running back in recent years from the Tar Heel State to choose the Bulldogs, following in the steps of Keith Marshall and Todd Gurley back in 2012. And with how great Gurley was in Athens, people have already started comparing the two.

More from Southbound and Down

In an interview with DawgNation over a year ago, White’s high school coach, Richard Bailey could see similarities between the two when White was only a sophomore.

“To be honest he is very Todd Gurley-ish,” Bailey said. “He’s a tall guy. A little over six feet tall. I coached Todd in the Shrine Bowl and physically Zamir looks like Todd did as a senior. The only thing is he’s just a sophomore. I don’t know what Zamir is going to look like two years from now. But very similar players. Very similar people.”

That’s high praise for a guy who was a sophomore in high school at the time, but people are always on the look out for the next great player, and Georgia is hoping they found one. White is exactly what the Bulldogs needed. After a great 2017 recruiting class, they’ve struggled to get the 2018 class going.

With the addition of White, the Georgia Bulldogs now have seven commits, the 55th ranked recruiting class in the country, and the 12th in the SEC. But they shouldn’t sweat it. Alabama currently has the 59th ranked class in the country with just five commits.
