The SEC released times and TV information for the first three weeks of the football season. We take a look at Auburn’s opening weeks and what those three games could mean for the rest of the season.

The 2017 Auburn football schedule opens at home with Georgia Southern at 6:30 CT on Sept. 2. The game will be televised on SEC Network. This should be a win for Auburn, but just a win won’t be good enough.

The quarterback play, along with the offensive play-calling, will be under a microscope. The Tigers will need to blow the roof off of Southern in order for the fan base (and the team) to feel comfortable going into week 2.

Gus and co. will make the trip to Clemson one week later. The final leg of the home-and-home kicks off at 7:00 ET on ESPN on Sept. 9. Assuming Auburn takes care of Georgia Southern, the Clemson game can have big implications for the rest of the season.

More from Southbound and Down

Going on the road to take on the defending champs in week 2 will be a tremendous test. Although a loss at Clemson won’t be the end of the world, a win has the potential to propel Auburn to a great season.

In week 3, Auburn returns to Jordan-Hare to take on Mercer. This game will be a matinee, kicking off at 3:00 CT on SECN Alternate.

In the event the Tigers defeat Clemson, they will likely be 3-0 at this point. Their next three games? At Missouri, and then at home against Mississippi State, and Ole Miss. Auburn could very well start the year 6-0 before traveling to Death Valley to play LSU.

Then again, the first three weeks could go horribly, leading to a crumbling mess for the remainder of the season. You just never really know, and that’s what makes it fun.
