SEC Football: Top 10 games of the 2017 season
By Matt Green
5. Georgia at Auburn (Nov. 11)
The Deep South’s Rivalry is, like the name of the rivalry says, one of the oldest rivalries in SEC football. It’s been a few years since both teams were having good seasons going into this contest.
In 2014, no. 16 Georgia beat no. 9 Auburn 34-7. That was the only time since Georgia’s Blackout game of 2007 that each team was ranked in the top 20 at the time of their matchup.
And unlike most rivalries, the road team does pretty well in this series. Auburn is 17-11 in Athens since the two teams started playing a home-and-home series in 1959, while Georgia is 16-11-2 in Auburn.
This rivalry has been good to the Bulldogs in recent years. Georgia has won 9 of the last 11 games against the Tigers, and one of Auburn’s two wins was helped by The Prayer at Jordan -Hare. Georgia has won three straight in the rivalry.
